WATCH: Clint Dempsey opens up scoring for US in Copa America quarterfinal

Who else but Clint Dempsey to give the United States a 1-0 commanding lead over Ecuador in the quarterfinals of the Copa America Centenario? It is only fitting that Deuce scored in front of his own home fans, as he plays for the Seattle Sounders and to him this is home field advantage times two.

After some pretty close advances by the USMNT early in the first half, the U.S. looked like the early aggressor as they pressured the Ecuador defense.

Then what looked like a broken play for Bobby Wood saw him recover greatly near the right edge of the 18-yard box. After gaining his wits, Wood then delivered a deadly cross that found the head of one Clint Dempsey as he managed to power it through past the diving Ecuadorian keeper for the early lead.
