32 Flags 2015-16 EPL Fantasy Recap – Week 1

Welcome to a new feature on 32 Flags. During every week of the English Premier League, we will provide an EPL fantasy preview the day before the start of the games as well as a recap the day after.

Alright, we are 1/38 of the way into the season, how is your team doing? If you write for 32 Flags, you most likely had a rough week. And if you were me, as you’ll see later, you had a very rough week. Regardless, it’s still an early season so these positions can change every which way.

In our 32 Flags League, a total of 59 people have signed up. Every week, we will recognize the person who had the best score every week as well as the top person in the table. This week, since it’s obviously the first week, they will be the same person.

This week, the team of the week belongs to Nicholas Tetro with Slippy G FC. Nicholas scored 46 points, mainly thanks to Yaya Toure (16 points) and his brace as well as Philippe Coutinho (10 points) with his wonder strike at the end of the Stoke/Liverpool game. Here was his team this week.

GK – Tim Howard – Everton – 2 points
DEF – Jose Fonte – Southampton – 0
DEF – Luke Shaw – Manchester United – 6
DEF – Toby Alderwelred – Tottenham – 2
MID – Jordon Ibe – Liverpool – 3

List of people who have had the team of the week

1) Nicholas Tetro – 1 time

Now onto our writers, we will go from best to worst.

1) Mark – T17th place – 37 points this week – 37 points total

GK – Simon Mignolet – Liverpool – 6 points
DEF – Phil Jagielka – Everton – 1
DEF – Nathaniel Clyne – Liverpool – 7
DEF – Jose Fonte – Southampton – 0
MID – Eden Hazard (captain) – Chelsea – 4
MID – Juan Mata – Manchester United – 2
MID – Jordan Henderson – Liverpool – 3
MID – Nacer Chadli – Tottenham – 2
FW – Harry Kane – Tottenham – 2
FW – Wayne Rooney – Manchester United – 5
FW – Graziano Pelle – Southampton – 5

Mark had a pretty solid week highlighted by Nathaniel Clyne and Simon Mignolet collecting clean sheets as well as Wayne Rooney and Graziano Pelle collecting goals.

2) Evan – T24th place – 35 points this week – 35 points total

GK – Thibaut Courtois – Chelsea – -2
DEF – Branislav Ivanovic – Chelsea – 1
DEF – Gary Cahill – Chelsea – 1
DEF – Leighton Baines – Everton – 1
DEF – Laurent Koscielny – Arsenal – 1
MID – Nacer Chadli – Tottenham – 2
MID – Jordan Henderson (captain) – Liverpool – 3
MID – Yaya Toure – Manchester City – 16
MID – Dusan Tadic – Southampton – 6
FW – Saido Bernahino – West Brom – 4
FW – Harry Kane – Tottenham – 2

Evan also had a solid week despite only getting a single point from each of his defenders as well as starting Thibaut Courtois when he got a red card. No doubt that a huge Monday by Yaya Toure helped Evan move up to the middle of the table.

3) Andy – T31st place – 32 points this week – 32 points total

GK – Joe Hart (captain) – Manchester City – 12
DEF – Phil Jagielka – Everton – 1
DEF – Martin Skrtel – Liverpool – 6
DEF – Daryl Janmaat – Newcastle – 1
DEF – Branislav Ivanovic – Chelsea – 1
DEF – Wes Morgan – Leicester City – 1
MID – Nacer Chadli – Tottenham – 2
MID – Christian Eriksen – Tottenham – 1
MID – Raheem Sterling – Manchester City – 3
MID – Roberto Firmino – Liverpool – 1
FW – Saido Bernahino – West Brom – 2

Andy was saved by making Joe Hart captain and Hart getting a clean sheet against West Brom on Monday. That along with Martin Skrtel’s clean sheet got Andy from the bottom of the league to just shy of the top half.

NOTE: Peter Crouch was originally in the lineup and since he didn’t play, he was automatically replaced by Wes Morgan.

4) Josh E. – T41st place – 28 points this week – 28 points total

GK – Joe Hart – Chelsea – 6
DEF – John Terry – Chelsea – 0
DEF – Phil Jagielka – Everton – 1
DEF – Nathaniel Clyne – Liverpool – 7
DEF – Wes Morgan – Leicester City – 1
MID – Eden Hazard (captain) – Chelsea – 4
MID – Santi Cazorla – Arsenal – 2
MID – Nacer Chadli – Tottenham – 2
MID – Ki Sung Yueng – Swansea – 1
FW – Harry Kane – Tottenham – 2
FW – Saido Bernahino – West Brom – 2

Now we’re getting to the lower depths of the table. Josh E. had a couple of bright spots in Joe Hart and Nathaniel Clyne but everything else was rather lackluster.

5) Josh H. – T50th place – 25 points this week – 25 points total

GK – Thibaut Courtois – Chelsea – -2
DEF – Gary Cahill – Chelsea – 1
DEF – Phil Jagielka – Everton – 1
DEF – Ashley Williams – Swansea – 0
DEF – Branislav Ivanovic – Chelsea – 1
MID – Aaron Ramsey – Arsenal – 2
MID – David Silva – Manchester City – 6
MID – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Arsenal – 2
MID – Gylfi Sigurdsson – Swansea – 2
FW – Christian Benteke – Liverpool – 2
FW – Wayne Rooney (captain) – Manchester United – 10

Josh H. captained the right player as he captained Wayne Rooney but Courtois’ red didn’t help matters.

NOTE: Nathan Baker was originally in the lineup and since he didn’t play, he was automatically replaced by Ashley Williams. Williams also got 0 points so they really didn’t need to make the substitution.

6) Jeff – T54th place – 24 points this week – 24 points total

GK – Kasper Schmeichel – Leicester City – 2
DEF – John Stones – Everton – 1
DEF – Phil Jagielka – Everton – 1
DEF – Per Mertesacker – Arsenal – 1
DEF – Branislav Ivanovic – Chelsea – 1
DEF – Angelo Ogbonna – West Ham – 5
MID – Nacer Chadli – Tottenham – 2
MID – Jordan Henderson – Liverpool – 3
MID – Santi Cazorla – Arsenal – 2
FW – Harry Kane – Tottenham – 2
FW – Christian Benteke (captain) – Liverpool – 4

Jeff’s only highlight of his team is the brilliant choice of Angelo Ogbonna (chosen by 1.2% of players), who got a clean sheet against Arsenal. Despite

NOTE: Jordy Clasie was originally in the lineup and since he didn’t play, he was automatically replaced by Angelo Ogbonna.

7) Phillip – 59th place – 16 points this week – 16 points total

GK – Thibaut Courtois – Chelsea – -2
DEF – John Terry – Chelsea – 0
DEF – Joleon Lescott – West Brom – 1
DEF – Phil Jagielka – Everton – 1
DEF – Branislav Ivanovic – Chelsea – 1
MID – Jordan Henderson – Liverpool – 3
MID – Santi Cazorla – Arsenal – 2
MID – Jack Colback – Newcastle – 1
FW – Graziano Pelle – Southampton – 5
FW – Harry Kane (captain) – Tottenham – 4
FW – Aleksandar Mitrovic – Newcastle – 5

Oh this pains me to type this. Yes, I am stone dead last in the 32 Flags fantasy EPL league. With this team, anything that could go wrong did. Not only did Courtois get a red card and lost points, I had Adrian on the bench and he scored 11 points by getting a clean sheet against Arsenal. I think I might have to write an article for next week telling you who not to pick. Because that will take you into a much better direction in terms of who to take.
