UEFA Champions League Midway Report: Groups A – D

Group C:

Until the final few moments, this group could’ve looked completely different. Bayer Leverkusen survived being down a man in the final few minutes to get a 2-0 win against Zenit while Monaco and Benfica battled to a 0-0 draw.

Standings:

[table id=7 /]

Except for Benfica, this is one of the tighter groups in the group stage. Leverkusen, Monaco and Zenit all have a realistic chance to get in the knockout stage. Their head to head games will be the difference in who is in and who is out.

Predicted Finish:

1. Bayer Leverkusen – 13 points
2. Zenit – 10 points
3. Monaco – 9 points
4. Benfica – 1 points

While Leverkusen escapes with the group win, the battle will be for 2nd between Zenit and Monaco. It’s next to impossible to get any points in Russia so Zenit will have the advantage. Monaco got by with a 0-0 draw when they were in Russia but Zenit will have the other two opponents at home so they go to 2nd. Monaco would have to beat Zenit in Monaco if they want to grab 2nd. Benfica will be scraping for points but won’t find any.
