You never know what you are gonna see in football, and in today’s Europa League matches there was truly a sight to behold.
Rapid Wien, from Austria, was taking on Viktoria Plzeň, from the Czech Republic, in a Europa League Group E match. The score was all level at one with 77 minutes played and Rapid Wien went on a quick attack.
Some quick passing at the midfield line led to a rapid progression up the pitch and a smart pass found a charging Phillip Schobesberger and he made a quick dash to the goal.
Schobesberger easily shook his defender and looked to go 1-on-1 against the Plzeň goalkeeper, when he inexplicably took a spill right at the top of the box. What should have been a missed opportunity for Wien, turned out to be the game winning goal for the Austrian club.
As Schobesberger was falling, he had the wherewithal to make a lunge to get a touch on the ball with his left leg and managed to just get a piece of it as he slid down on the grass.
As the Viktoria Plzeň goalkeeper came off his line, he was caught off guard by the Wien attacker’s last lunge and stood frozen not daring to look back as he knew the ball was dribbling slowly into his net.
Truly a lesson in never giving up on the ball, watch as Phillip Schobesberger scores a bizarre goal:

This was Schobesberger’s second goal of the game and proved to be the game winner as Wien would get the win 2-1, and clinch a spot in the next round of the Europa League.
