In mid-October USMNT manager sent German-American defender and midfielder Fabian Johnson home from the US team early after Johnson had asked to be subbed off against Mexico due to injury. Klinsmann believed that Johnson wasn’t actually hurt and needed to check his commitment to the US team. When he got home, his club team said he was hurt, but he was still in the starting XI for Borussia Mochengladbach’s next match at the weekend.
Since then Johnson has changed the conversation simply by scoring an abundance of goals. Just over a month later whether it’s for club or country when we talk about Johnson it seems to always be about scoring goals.
Johnson opened the scoring for ‘Gladbach Saturday against Hoffenheim, finishing from close range after a terrific thru ball. While the finish is nothing to scoff at, it’s the run Johnson makes that shows how smart he can be, and how dangerous he can be as a midfielder.
GOAL, Gladbach! #USMNT defender Fabian Johnson finishes off a great move to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead. https://t.co/br8zqhMnfu
