Tottenham need a win, draw or Arsenal loss to remain above their North London rivals in the Premier League table, but first half goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Aleksander Mitrovic put the freshly relegated side 2-0 up over Spurs. With the news that Arsenal is leading at home against Aston Villa, Tottenham will need to score twice in the second half to retain precious bragging rights.
Newcastle opened the scoring 19 minutes in with a long ball into the box that the Spurs defense had trouble clearing. The ball came to Moussa Sissoko who had time and space and played the ball back into the center of the box when it was met by an onrushing Wijnaldum who fired past Hugo Lloris.
Shortly before half-time Newcastle United added a second when Mitrovic found himself unmarked for a free header. A perfect cross from Sissoko, who is having an excellent match, found the Serbian striker whos bullet header beat a diving Lloris.
