Arsenal has not had great success against Chelsea in recent years, with only one win in the last four years. Coming up against their recent nemesis, The Gunners could have used a bright start and that’s exactly what they got. 15 minutes into the match against their London rivals, Arsenal found themselves up 2-0.
The first goal was a gift. Gary Cahill found himself in trouble about 40 yards out from his own goal. Alexis Sanchez pressured the Chelsea defender into making a mistake. The Chilean stole the ball and had a clear run to the Chelsea goal. Sanchez made no mistake as he chipped it over Thibaut Courtois.
Arsenal didn’t waste any time doubling their lead. Three minutes after Sanchez opened the scoring, Theo Walcott put his name on the scoresheet. While the opener was down to individual error, Arsenal’s second was sublime team play. The Gunners passed the ball around the 18-yard box quickly and efficiently. Eventually, the ball fell to Héctor Bellerín who was in space out wide and he squared it for Walcott who had an open net to shoot into.
Arsenal has since added a third from Mesut Özil.
