USA Rivalry With Mexico Continues at Alamodome Minus Altidore, Dempsey

When the USA and Mexico clash for international soccer friendlies, the matches are anything but. On Wednesday, April 15, the rivalry continues at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas with a matchup that figures to continue that tradition.

According to TiqIQ.com, the average price for tickets to USA vs. Mexico is $154.33, with a get-in price of $70. The price reached a high of $287.63 in mid-January before falling to the current mark, one day before kickoff.

Interestingly, neither side will be at full strength as this friendly is not in a FIFA window, and European-based players from both sides will not travel back for the event.

Per MLSSoccer.com, an intriguing aspect of Wednesday’s contest is the presence of several Mexican-Americans on the U.S. roster. William Yarbrough and Ventura Alvarado, both Liga MX players who accepted their first U.S. call-ups just last month, will face Mexico for the first time.

This is the second time in 2015 that the USMNT is playing on U.S. soil, where it has gone unbeaten in its last 20 matches. USMNT fans can watch the 64th edition of the rivalry with the help of Hipmunk.com, which provides flights to and from San Antonio through various major airline carriers. Fans of both the United States and Mexico can reserve San Antonio hotels through Hipmunk as well, starting at $69.

According to USSoccer.com, the U.S. will be without the services of team captain Clint Dempsey, who is sidelined with a hamstring strain, and forward Jozy Altidore who is required to serve a one-match suspension following a red card he received in the USA’s last friendly, a 1-1 draw against Switzerland on March 31 in Zurich. Aside from DeAndre Yedlin and Julian Green, the U.S. roster will be mainly made up of talent from MLS.

The USMNT will be entering this contest while riding a five-game unbeaten streak against Mexico (2-0-3). In addition, they have not lost to their Mexican rivals since head coach Jurgen Klinsmann took over at the helm in the summer of 2011.
