Jack Warner is in even more trouble. Warner, former and one of the primary targets of the ongoing FIFA investigation, is being further investigated for “the disappearance of money meant for victims of the Haiti earthquake.”
Warner stands accused of taking $750,000 intended for the Haitian people. This money was donated by FIFA ($250,000) and the Korean Football Association ($500,000). US Department of Justice investigators allege the money somehow found its way into a bank account controlled by Warner.
These allegations go back to 2012 when FIFA froze funding to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation until they could account for the money. The TTFF blamed Warner, and in response, Warner denied any wrong-doing: “I have nothing to answer to anybody. Who wants to make allegations, make allegations.”
Orchestrating bribes for the World Cup is one thing, but blatantly stealing from earthquake victims? That’s a whole new level of corruption.
