VANCOUVER, BC – JULY 05: Goalkeeper Hope Solo #1 of the United States talks with Julie Johnston #19 in the first half against Japan in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 Final at BC Place Stadium on July 5, 2015 in Vancouver, Canada. (Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

VIDEO: Johnston scores own goal to make it 4-2 Japan

After a quick 4-0 lead the United States Women’s national team appeared to take the foot off the gas a bit. Japan took advantage once in the first half, and then forced defender Julie Johnston in to a no-win situation early in the 2nd half.

With Japan taking a long free kick, Johnston was forced to mark up hard on Japanese legend Yuika Sugasawa. It resulted in a mid-air situation that wasn’t exactly comfortable, and thus this unfortunate result for the USWNT and a whole lot of hope for Japan.
