Dick Advocaat resigns as Sunderland manager

A day after his team failed to hold a two-goal lead in an eventual 2-2 draw with West Ham, Dick Advocaat has resigned as Sunderland manager.

After taking the job in March and helping Sunderland escape relegation in the 2014-2015 season, the Black Cats are 19th in the league table and have not won a Barclays Premier League fixture in eight tries this season.

“I have made the decision to go after only eight games as I felt it was important to give everyone time turn things around,” he said in a statement.

Burnley’s Sean Dyche and former Leicester boss Nigel Pearson are potential replacements, according to The Daily Mail.

Fans of the U.S. Men’s National Team will wonder what the change in leadership in the Sunderland dugout will mean for DeAndre Yedlin, who earned his first BPL start in Saturday’s match.
