UEFA Champions League Midway Report: Groups A – D

Group D:

This is one of the few groups where we’re all correctly going to predict. Before the group stage started, most people had Dortmund and Arsenal advancing and it sure looks that way. Dortmund cruised to a 4-0 win against Galatasaray. Arsenal, however, got a scare against Anderlecht. They had to score two goals in the final couple minutes to get a 2-1 win.

Standings:

[table id=8 /]

Dortmund and Arsenal can each clinch a berth in the knockout stage next game. Anderlecht and Galatasaray will go for 3rd and the Europa League spot.

Predicted Finish:

1. Borussia Dortmund – 15 points
2. Arsenal – 13 points
3. Anderlecht – 4 points
4. Galatasaray – 2 points

While the group will be decided long before the final day, these four teams still have to play the games. All of these games can go either way due to teams clinching and playing reserves so it’s going to be tough to predict what happens. It’s easy to predict who’s in the knockout stage and who isn’t, but the positions will be tough. I will say Anderlecht beats Galatasaray and will have the fast track for 3rd place.
