Shakhtar Donetsk is currently in the United States for the winter and one of their players has been in the news on a potential move. Brazilian midfielder Alex Teixeira currently plays for Shakhtar and Liverpool wants him this winter. With less than a week left in the winter transfer window, Liverpool has bid for the 26 year old but Shakhtar hasn’t been making things easy.
In an interview with Anfield HQ, they caught up with Teixeira in Florida to ask him a few questions about the supposed move.
Teixeira seems pretty straight forward with his answers. In a very secret world of transfer negotiations, Teixeira explains that Liverpool had put in a bid of 32 million Euros that was rejected by Shakhtar’s manager as well as the president. He also expressed that it “would be an honor to defend the Liverpool shirt” and his agent “is still attempting everything possible to help [Teixeira] get to Liverpool.”
It definitely looks like Teixeira would like to leave Shakhtar and go to Liverpool but it’s not going to be his choice. He’s not going about it in a negative way or anything, it doesn’t look like he has any ill will or is trying to force a move. But he is pointing out that he would like to move to a bigger team to help develop as he enters the prime of his career. It’ll remain to be seen if Alex is going to be wearing Liverpool red and playing in front of The Kop for years to come.
