It hasn’t been wonderful at Old Trafford these past few months. Before today, Manchester United hadn’t scored a goal in the first half at home since September 30, a total of 11 games. Now in this span, United was 4-4-3 so while it wasn’t the worst record you can get when you don’t score in the first half, it certainly isn’t up to the traditional high standards of Manchester United.
Today, against Stoke, Manchester United scored not one, but two goals in the first half. The first, was thanks to Cameron Borthwick-Jackson crossing the ball into the box. And after a bit of confusion among the Stoke defenders, Jesse Lingard was open on the back post and headed the ball into the back of the net.
The second goal was the result of a terrific counterattack. Wayne Rooney saw a wide open Anthony Martial across the field and Martial made it 2-0.
Could this be a changing of the guard with Manchester United finally figuring out how to score goals and be entertaining? We’ll have to see.
