For a team who seems to be in a loss of direction over this season, Aston Villa did something right. The relegation bound team announced that they will not have a season end award party because, well there isn’t much about this team that was worth celebrating this season. You know, because they have been in last place since November.
This isn’t without precedent. Aston Villa cancelled their goal of the month award in October 2014 but that was more out of necessity. Mainly because the team didn’t score a goal all month and there weren’t any nominees.
In addition to not having an online fan vote (probably for the best), an Aston Villa spokesman said,
“The club will not be holding its annual Player of the Year Awards at the conclusion of this season. In the current circumstances, we are sure our supporters will understand.”
Fans have been upset with Aston Villa’s performances over the season going from terrible on the field play to telling them to “get stuffed” so nobody really wants to celebrate this final Premier League season. Villa can clinch relegation this Saturday if Norwich gets at least a point against Sunderland or Villa doesn’t get three points against Manchester United. Aston Villa have five more English Premier League games left and after then, who knows when they will ever get back.
