Jack Warner, the man who tried to defend himself using an article from The Onion, has now changed his tune and will now disclose an “avalanche” of secrets involving corruption in FIFA. This comes two days after Sepp Blatter resigned as FIFA President and one day after Chuck Blazer’s testimony was unsealed to the public.
In a broadcast that was shown on Trinidad and Tobago TV, Warner said that he has documents that pertain to the US Department of Justice’s investigation into FIFA. He put together documents that shows “a link between FIFA, its funding and me, the link between FIFA its funding and the United National Congress (UNC) and the People’s Partnership government in [Trinidad and Tobago’s] general election in 2010.” Not surprisingly, Warner states that this involves people such as Sepp Blatter and Trinidad and Tobago’s current Prime Minister. It should be noted that Warner is running against the current Prime Minister for the job.
While he is still fighting extradition to the United States, he is not going to keep secrets anymore. Warner said, “I apologize for not disclosing my knowledge of these events before. There can be no reversal of the course of action I’ve now embarked upon. I have kept quiet, fearing this day might come. I will do so no more. I will no longer keep secrets for them who actively seek to destroy the country. I reasonably actually fear for my life. Not even death will stop the avalanche that is coming. The die is cast. There can be no turning back. Let the chips fall where they fall.”
This is certainly a change of pace from last week where we saw Blazer make a triumphant return hours after being in the hospital for “exhaustion,” dancing and singing Bob Marley’s “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright.”
I don’t think I’m alone in the soccer world when I say that this has been one helluva week. What’s going to happen tomorrow, or even later today?
