Brazil’s Formiga and Japan’s Homare Sawa are competing for all the “oldest” records. At 37 and 36 respectively, both are participating in their 6th Women’s World Cup. To put that in perspective, both have been playing for their respective teams since the 2nd World Cup in 1995.
Formiga dipped into the fountain of youth when she scored her 20th international goal in and in her 20th year in her international career. After taking control of a horrible back pass by South Korea, Formica finished up to help Brazil take the lead and at 37 years and 98 days, to become the oldest goalscorer in the Women’s World Cup.
