After being heavily criticized for his first touch (enough so that someone actually made a YouTube compilation video of his terrible first touches), finally Gyasi Zardes gets a goal for the USMNT in the Copa America Centenario.
After a weird sequence that saw Antonio Valencia and Jermaine Jones see simultaneous red cards, both teams were reduced to 10 men each.
However, that did not defer the USMNT from keeping on the attack as goal scorer Clint Dempsey made a nice run up to box and received a beautiful through ball, in what promised to be a great chance. From there, he saw Zardes and calmly put a pass that went through the entire box past two Ecuador defenders and the goalkeeper.
Zardes from the calmly took a first touch that he couldn’t miss for the 2-0 United States lead.
