Julian Green made a splash today in a 4-1 win over Augsburg II, scoring a hat trick for the Bayern reserve team. Green collected his brace before 25 minutes, and added his third a few minutes before full time.
A lot is expected of the young forward, but he’s been having trouble scoring this season for Bayern II. He’s scored three goals so far this season, a total he doubled to six this afternoon. Bayern Munich hopes Green’s performance today will boost his confidence going forward.
Green made headlines for the wrong reasons early this summer when he was demoted to the Bayern reserve side. There was a lot of speculation about a possible move away from the German giants, but Green seemed determined to prove he belongs in Munich. Performances like today will help. If Green can keep up the pace he could also see a return to the USMNT. Jürgan Klinsmann hasn’t called up Green for any competitive USMNT match since the 2014 World Cup.
Bayern Munich II will also be happy to see Green scoring as the team tries to move up to the 3rd division in Germany (3.Liga). Bayern II sits in second place in the Regionalliga Bayern, 8 points back of Jahn Regensburg.
It was a good day for Green, but he’ll need a few more performances like this to make it back up to the Bayern first team. He greatly improved his prospects for a USMNT call-up, though, especially since Klinsmann would love to have another attacking threat. No one should get overly excited for one hat trick for a reserve team, but with a player under the microscope like Green, it’s important.
Perfect night: 3 goals, 3 points and a terrific performance of the entire team 👊🔴 @sinan_kurt_24 #Ribéry #Gaudino pic.twitter.com/tLVRDD1kBi
