Watch: Kevin de Bruyne puts Manchester City ahead

All season long we’ve been hearing about how important Vincent Kompany is to Manchester City this season. Well we’ve been forgetting about one player who is proving to be even more important.

Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne.

Since going down with a knee injury at the end of January Manchester City won just two of their seven Premier League matches without de Bruyne, a run that included three losses in a row and nearly saw them drop out of the top four.

Since returning from injury de Bruyne has made City look like a completely different team and has easily been their most threatening attacking player. He was the surprise first goal scorer in the first leg against PSG last week and though a 0-0 draw would have been enough in the second leg to send City threw, the club was certainly gunning for a win as they look to make the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.

City looked dangerous all game but couldn’t find their breakthrough. In the 76th minute the ball found de Bruyne at the top of the box, and he unleashed a rocket to finally put City in the lead.

And even if you’re someone who strongly dislikes Manchester City you should cheer up. The club progressing to the semi-finals of the competition will certainly help England’s UEFA coefficient.
