One of the most talked about topics over this past summer was that of Manchester United’s new striker and their old one. Zlatan Ibrahimovic signing for United provided enough storylines of their own, but there was also the topic of where 12 year Manchester United veteran Wayne Rooney would be lining up on the field.
Jose Mourinho made it clear that he would be used as an attacker, though many said his best days were behind him. Others argued that Rooney simply didn’t fit Louis van Gaal’s style and under a new manager the goals would come back.
Nevertheless there were plenty of questions as to how Rooney and Zlatan would co-exist on the field. Things didn’t look great in the Community Shield or in the first half against Bournemouth. That all changed in the second half, when they scored twice in five minutes to blow the game open.
