At the end of the day, Tuesday’s Champions League matches pretty much went exactly as we all expected. Both of the favorites progressed with advantages heading into the second leg next week and we’d be forgiven for thinking that more of the same would occur on Wednesday.
Especially when it came to the Real Madrid vs. Wolfsburg matchup. Despite Real Madrid’s inconsistencies under new manager Zinedine Zidane, Wolfsburg were widely considered to be the worst team left in the tournament, and the expectations were that Real would put them away with ease.
Well no one told Wolfsburg that. They came out attacking and won an early penalty, which Ricardo Rodriguez slotted home with ease.

They weren’t done with one goal though. Just seven minutes later Max Arnold doubled their lead with a close range effort.
