The tension was building in Paris for nearly an hour as Romania was doing all they could to hold France scoreless in the EURO 2016 opener. It took a brilliant cross from Dimitri Payat to find the head of Olivier Giroud and finally change the mood and start the party in the French capital.

Shortly following a corner kick, the ball came out wide to Payat, who has been France’s best player so far, and he delivered a cross into the box. The Romanian keeper came out to play the ball but couldn’t get to it before Giroud’s head. The Arsenal man fired it in and France took the lead.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Romania won a penalty not long after and leveled the score.
