Paul the Octopus made waves in 2008 and 2010 with his predictions during the 2008 European Championship and the 2010 World Cup. Citta the elephant struggled with her predictions during the 2012 European Championship. But Paul is dead, and Citta has been shuffled to the back burner in favor of a new animal guest picker – a panda from the Chinese province of Sichuan.
The panda, whose name hasn’t been released yet, will reportedly pick game either by picking food with a national flag on it or climbing a tree flying a national flag. Because the Panda is Chinese and China isn’t in the World Cup, there is less of a chance of bias, like there was with the German-residing Paul and the Poland-residing Citta.
We’ll see what winners the panda ends up picking, but if it ends up picking nothing but favorites, I can already hear the cries of “fraud”.
