Liverpool and Arsenal throw defending to the wind in a wild 3-3 draw

Well, where to begin with this? Liverpool and Arsenal both felt they had three points but wound up both having to settle for a single point in an incredible 3-3 draw at a snowy Anfield.

For Liverpool, it was no striker, no problem early on. Playing a false nine with Roberto Firmino up front, he got Liverpool the lead twice. First, he scored in the 10th minute after grabbing a rebound off of a Petr Cech save on James Milner. His second and Liverpool’s second, was scored right after Aaron Ramsey’s equalizer left Liverpool defenders as well as Simon Mignolet dumbfounded.

His second and Liverpool’s second, was scored right after Aaron Ramsey’s equalizer left Liverpool defenders as well as Simon Mignolet dumbfounded.

After just standing there, Firmino pulled off something insane as he somehow looped the ball over Cech. He wound up not taking off his shirt (unlike his first goal) and thus didn’t receive his second yellow.

But like the first goal, Liverpool’s lead was short lived as Olivier Giroud flicked in the equalizer. All this within the first 25 minutes.

The second half got even crazier. Arsenal took the lead in the 55th minute as Olivier Giroud created an incredible goal, turning and fooling Kolo Toure in the process.

But at the end, even though out of form Joe Allen and Christian Benteke, along with new loanee Steven Caulker as a center forward (huh???) were subbed on, Benteke and Allen teamed up to create arguably the best goal of the game deep in stoppage time. As Benteke headed the ball over, Allen volleyed the shot into the back of the net and complete the 3-3 draw.

This now makes things interesting at the top. Manchester City drew Everton 0-0 and Leicester City defeated Tottenham 1-0 so Leicester is back fighting for first place, tied with Arsenal for the top spot even though Arsenal has the goal differential. Liverpool goes down to ninth, setting up a derby against Manchester United that would put Pool tied with United if they win. And a win by United this weekend could potentially put them back in the top four.
