Oh You Beauty!: Goals of the Week 2/23/2015

5. Marwin Hitz vs Leverkusen

A goalie goal is a rare and beautiful thing. Like a unicorn or a unhate-able Kardashian. In this case, Marwin Hitz the ball (sorry, that pun needed to happen) to level the game in the dying minutes.

4. Badetimbi Gomis (via Jonjo Shelvey) vs Manchester United

This goal might have broken a few Red Devil hearts but it also blew the race for fourth wide open. While the goal is credited to Gomis, it’s really Jonjo Shelvey’s goal. This game really summed Jonjo Shelvey up as a player. He was a bit invisible for long stretches of the game, but then popped up with this absolutely screamer of a goal.

3. Robert Lewandowski vs Paderborn

This goal is all about the assist from Robben. A complete touch of class to just pop that ball over the defense onto the on-rushing Lewandowski. Quality finish from the Pole as well.

2. Samir Nasri vs Newcastle

A goal that just sums up the Newcastle-City game over the weekend. Nasri receives the ball off a deflection and then is able to control the ball, dribble a bit, and then take an upper-90 shot in the box. Surrounded by 5 Newcastle players. Great shot, but Newcastle need to look at themselves after that goal. A lot of work needs to be done after that performance.

1. Philippe Coutinho vs Southampton

This is potentially the goal of the season. Struck with pace, power, precision. Whatever word you want to use to describe that shot, preferably starting with “p”, works. It’s a wondergoal and Southampton, who were playing better at that point, could do nothing to stop it.
