My god, there were some crazy goals this past week. Looking at the fact that I genuinely couldn’t pick between only five goals of the week, let alone order them, this week we’ll be looking at seven (7) goals. Not only that, they’re all the best goal of the week. Yay! Everybody is a winner! This isn’t some sort of “Participation Award” they give out to kids for just showing up. Oh no, each one of these goals deserves to be on this list, starting with:
Neymar vs Espanyol
Everything about this goal gives me chills. The inch perfect chip. The cross that makes it’s way through a whole defense. The dummy. My god, the dummy. All the way to a very clean finish. Beautiful team goal.
Lionel Messi vs Espanyol
These two goals is what Barcelona is all about. Football pornography. First we have a volleyed through ball to a volleyed cross. Messi receives the ball a little awkwardly but makes an incredible zero-angle goal. This is Barcelona at their best.
Carlos Sanchez vs Manchester City
Sanchez makes this goal look easy, but to have volleyed a goal like that, first time off a failed clearance, is near impossible. He’ll remember this goal for years to come.
Benny Feilhaber vs Houston
An absolute rocket of a goal. Graham Zusi does well to deliver a cushioned header to Feilhaber in the 4th minute of stoppage time. Feilhaber obliges the set up by smacking the shot like it owed him money. Wonderstrike.
Andrea Pirlo vs Torino
You know what they say. No Pirlo, no party. Pirlo unleashes a magnificently placed free kick that kisses the upper bar of the goal. Pause the video right after the ball goes in the net and look at the keeper. He knew he was never getting that ball.
Mario Vrancic vs Werder Bremen
Another volleyed goal off of a corner kick. This one just happens to be a bit more direct. Vrancic does really well to lose his man and anticipate where the ball is going to fall. The shot he is able to get off then would have made it’s way onto this list even if it wasn’t off the volley. A powerful, upper-90 goal that left the keeper stretching.
Charlie Adam vs Sunderland
Charlie Adam has been on a bit of a run right now. This is the kind of strike that earned him the (ultimately unsuccessful) move to Liverpool a few years back. I can’t imagine better placement on a shot than where he put it. Expertly done. Adam seems to have found the right place for him and I think we can expect to see a few more of these before the end of the season.
