WATCH: Memphis fouls Clyne for PK, Sturridge makes it 1-0 for Liverpool

In the first ever European matchup between Liverpool and Manchester United, it was Liverpool who got on the board first. Defending against Nathaniel Clyne, Memphis clipped Clyne’s heel as he was going in on goal and went down. It was incredibly close whether or not it was in the box or not (the line counts for a penalty BTW) but the ref called a penalty nonetheless.

Then on the penalty kick, Daniel Sturridge stepped up, almost faked himself out and put it into the back of the net. Even though David de Gea got a fingertip on the ball, it wasn’t enough to keep the ball out. Early on, it’s Liverpool 1-0 over Manchester United.
