REPORT: Liverpool Meet Christian Benteke Buyout Clause

A few days after Liverpool received £49 million from Manchester City for Raheem Sterling, Liverpool looks to be giving most of that money to Aston Villa by triggering the £32 million buyout clause for Christian Benteke according to the Liverpool Echo.

Liverpool has been trying to negotiate with Aston Villa for months regarding Benteke. Aston Villa were unwilling to budge on the £32 million and after a few attempts, Liverpool accepted Villa’s demands. If the deal goes all the way through, Benteke will be the second most expensive player purchased by Liverpool in team history. The most expensive was Andy Carroll and we all know how that turned out?

Anyway, if the reports are true, the Belgian international is now free to talk a deal with Liverpool and get his medical. As of today, Benteke is still with Aston Villa while they’re on tour in Portugal but that should change very soon. Liverpool will hope that he can hook up with Daniel Sturridge to create a powerful 1-2 scoring punch up top that the team missed last year.

Along with signing players like Nathaniel Clyne, James Milner, Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino, Liverpool has heavily invested in new players after their collapse out of the top four. We’ll have more coverage if or when the deal becomes official and Benteke is holding a Liverpool shirt for all of social media to see, but it looks like Liverpool is adding on another player to the team.
