2015-16 UEFA Champions League Roundup: Matchday 6, Pt. 1

What an exciting finish we experienced on this final game for Groups A to D in the UEFA Champions League. The entire day was exciting but when things really got down to business toward the end, the excitement was ramped up tremendously.

Biggest Win: Manchester City

Manchester City already knew they were going to the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League. But in order to avoid teams like Real Madrid in the Round of 16, Man City would need to win the group and pass Juventus. With Sevilla doing what they needed to do against Juve, Man City needed to beat Borussia Monchengladbach to pass Juventus. Losing 2-1 after 79 minutes, Raheem Sterling scored two goals in two minutes on his 21st birthday to equalize and take the lead. A Wilfried Bony insurance goal sealed a 4-2 win and won the “Group of Death.” Unlike…

Biggest Loss: Manchester United

I had mentioned in the first half that both Manchester’s played very similar to each other. In the second half, one Manchester team went one way and one went the other. Manchester United went the other way. After scoring first, Wolfsburg took control and took a 2-1 lead just 20 minutes after Martial’s goal. Despite an own goal to equalize, Wolfsburg scored again to seal the 3-2 lead and along with PSV’s 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow, Manchester United would be heading to the Europa League.

Most Shocking Result: Galatasaray 1-1 FC Astana

The small team from Kazakhstan almost pulled off the shock of the tournament by finishing 3rd in their group and getting a Europa League spot. They went to Turkey and scored their first away goal in Champions League competition. They led for a couple minutes but Galatasaray scored and got the draw and the 3rd place spot.
