Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid headline Champions League quarterfinal matchups

The UEFA Champions League quarterfinals have been drawn and an all-Spanish matchup is on the cards. La Liga title rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid drew each other for the tournament while six others also learned their opponents.

Barcelona vs. Atletico Madrid

If anyone in this tournament can eliminate Barcelona from the Champions League, it’s Atletico Madrid. Atletico Madrid knows how Barcelona plays better than anyone and are going to hunker down and defend, defend, defend. It certainly won’t be easy having to do that for 180 minutes against the best club team in the world, but except for maybe Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid is probably the only other team to realistically eliminate Barcelona.

Bayern Munich vs. Benfica

Speaking of Bayern Munich, they drew Portuguese League leaders Benfica in the next round. While Bayern had to come back from two goals down to eliminate Juventus, I can’t see them struggling that much against Benfica.

Wolfsburg vs. Real Madrid

Another rather easy series to predict. Wolfsburg was fortunate in drawing Gent in the round of 16 but now must face Real Madrid. While Real has lost a step compared to their other Spanish competition, they’re still one of the best club teams in the world so they will be giving Wolfsburg way too many issues.

PSG vs. Manchester City

This will be a matchup where both sides are probably happy drawing their opponent. Both are pretty vulnerable to defeat at the moment so this will be tough to predict. PSG will have the advantage of resting starters before the ties since they already won the Ligue 1 title, but it will still be a rather entertaining matchup.

The Champions League quarterfinal takes place April 5-6 and 12-13.
