FIFA pays club teams for World Cup participation

FIFA apparently pays club teams whose players play in the World Cup. I didn’t know that before Thursday but it’s true.

What happened was that FIFA paid $70 million to club teams. In a report, it showed that FIFA would pay teams $2,800 for every day they were on national team duty during the World Cup. The $2,800 gets split when a player has been with other teams within the past two years.
