Team News:
Chelsea:
Chelsea’s squad is almost at full health. The only questions right now are Thibaut Courtois, with his minor finger injury, and Cesar Azpilicueta. Both should receive a late fitness test, with Courtois expected to be declared fit. Whether he will start or be rested is another matter though. Kurt Zouma, Loic Remy, and Andre Schurrle are all hoping to start should Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, rotate his squad.
Liverpool:
The biggest injury news for Liverpool is that captain Steven Gerrard is expected to be fit for the game, according to the Liverpool Echo. Mario Balotelli will also be subject to a late fitness test. He isn’t expected to start, however having not fully recovered from the illness that kept him sidelined for Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa. Liverpool will also be without the injured Joe Allen, Glen Johnson, Jon Flanagan, Brad Jones, and, most notably, Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge is still a week or two away from full fitness and will be in a race to be fit for any action this month.
Last Meeting:
The last meeting between these two rivals ended in a 2-1 Chelsea win at Anfield on November 8th. The goals came from Emre Can in the 9th minute, Gary Cahill in the 14th, and Diego Costa in the 67th.
Last League Cup Meeting:
2011 League Cup Quarter Final. Ended 2-0 Liverpool after goals from Maxi Rodriquez and Martin Kelly. Liverpool would go on to win the cup that year.
