1. Wayne Routledge vs. West Brom
What a hit, son. What a hit. ‘Nuff said.
2. Diego Costa vs. Everton, 89th min
It wasn’t just the backheel pass from John Obi Mikel that lands this goal so high, although it helps. It was Costa’s stuttered stepover that put this a step above the average goal.
3. Nathan Dyer vs. West Brom
What a lovely backheel from Siggurdsson for the assist here. It wasn’t a simple tap-in for Dyer, though, as he had to fight off 3 Baggies players and still beat the keeper.
4. Alberto Moreno vs. Tottenham
It wasn’t just the distance that Moreno ran to get this goal. It wasn’t just the speed he needed to run past almost the entire Spurs defense unmarked and untouched. And it wasn’t just the cool and collected shot he took for the goal. Well, it was kind of all of those things, but it’s also that he’s only 22 and it was his second game playing in the EPL. Yeah, just a magnificent goal.
5. Mame Diame vs. Manchester City
Much like Moreno’s goal above this, Diame’s goal against City comes down to pure work rate. That’s what I love about this goal. Diame ran the whole length of the field, bursting through a tackle from Kompany to beat put the ball right through Joe Hart’s legs. That’ll be a goal to remember for Senegalese striker.
6. Eden Hazard vs. Everton
This run from Hazard was great, and, while Howard should have maybe down better, scoring a goal from that tough of an angle is always something to give another look at. The power it needed to get through Coleman’s tackle and still beat Howard is nothing short of impressive.
7. Edison Cavani vs. St. Etienne
I love this magnificent, curling shot from Cavani that left St. Etienne keeper, Stephane Ruffier, stupefied.
8. Steven Defour vs. Club Brugge
Another long range effort on this list. This shot, however, was all about the power. To take inspiration from the incomparable Ray Hudson, it was like the lovechild of an atom bomb and a jet engine. The keeper never stood a chance.
9. Sanchez vs. Leicester
I love the petulant, almost lazy, attitude about the flick from Cazorla that put Sanogo in on goal. It just screams, “I’m a boss player and I’m going to beat you with this trick”. The right level of arrogance is a great thing in a player.
10. Diego Costa vs. Everton, 1st min.
A lovely pass from Fabregas to open the scoring on a day that would see 8 other goals.
