Throughout the World Cup, we at 32 Flags will be giving you a complete recap of the action at the end of the day in our World Cup Roundup. Not only will we run down the biggest winners and losers, but the highlights and most talked about moments of each day and a look ahead to tomorrow.
1) Biggest Winner – Brazilian National Team
The team gets to avoid the wrath of the Brazilian faithful for another four days.
2) Biggest Loser – Thiago Silva
The referee in the Brazil/Colombia game calls nothing and then Thiago Silva does this and the referee has to give a yellow.
Stupid is all I can say, and he’ll miss the semifinal against Germany because of that.
3) Standout Performer – Manuel Neuer
What a World Cup this has been. In a World Cup that has had plenty of scoring, we have anointed about eight different goalkeepers as the “Best in the World” over the World Cup. Manuel Neuer is the newest due to his performance against France. That’s how great this World Cup has been.
4) Best Tweet
France are having a harder time getting past this German defense than Edmond Dante had getting out of Chateau d`if ! — Ray Hudson (@RayHudson) July 4, 2014
5) Biggest Surprise – Thiago Silva yellow card
Just plain stupid. Still can’t get over that.
6) Best Moment – The End of Germany/France
That was a rather unwatchable game. France came close to equalizing and the ending was rather entertaining but I think everyone but French people were glad to see the end of that game.
7) Best Goal
Bad positioning from David Ospina but still, a fantastic shot.
Saturday Preview
Argentina vs. Belgium (12:00 p.m. ET, ESPN), Brasilia
Can Messi go further in his journey to cement himself as one of the best in soccer history? Can Belgium take a lead early and not leave it late and scare the Belgian faithful? I see Argentina taking the win as Belgium’s late winning ways finally catch up with them.
Netherlands vs. Costa Rica (4:00 p.m. ET, ESPN), Salvador
My heart says Costa Rica, my mind says Netherlands. Usually, I trust my mind but Costa Rica has proven it wrong in every stretch of the way so who knows. Maybe Costa Rica can extend their magical run and go to the Semifinals. Nah, I’m going with the Dutch.
