Carli Lloyd came up huge once again for the USWNT. She scored the late equalizer to extend the USWNT’s 100 home game unbeaten streak in their closest home test in a long time. This now 101 home game unbeaten streak dates back to 2004. Brazil took the USWNT to task and held out to a 1-1 draw in front of 23,603 people in Seattle.
This game was Shannon Boxx’s farewell game as she was retiring from the USWNT. She played the first 41 minutes and ended her career right before halftime. All in all, the game seemed like it was more based on two teams who were more focused on not getting injured out there. There weren’t many risks taken out there and both teams took it very safe, even though there was some physical play out there.
Brazil got their goal very early in the contest. Monica scored on a header in the 3rd minute to put Brazil up and was able to hold the lead for the next 82 minutes. Then in the 85th, Lloyd was able to get the ground cross from Meghan Klingenberg and equalized. Both teams will travel cross country to Orlando and play again Sunday. This may be the most likely time for the USWNT to lose at home for the first time in 11 years.
